The ion beam scattering facility is located at the Tandem accelerator in Uppsala. The setup is absolutely calibrated with respect to the ion dose. The scattering chamber is operated under Ultra High Vacuum conditions, which hinders the formation of carbon contamination on the sample surface. Furthermore, samples can be cooled during the measurements, effectively hindering the outgassing of the material under ion bombardment. |

This setup is equipped with two types of detectors, one particle detector at 160° scattering angle and a gamma detector located at 0° (behind the sample). This equipment can be used to determine the composition of samples, ranging from the lightest (hydrogen) to the heaviest elements in the periodic table. |
