Magnetic & optical measurements

Lab 3 c

The magnetic optical laboratory is equipped with state of the art components allowing magnetic analysis as a function of field and temperature. There are three basic setups, one room temperature setup with possibilities to rotate the sample, for determining the in plane anisotropy of thin films and structured materials.

The second system is optimised for low field (0.0001-8 mT) and wide temperature range (2.2-350 K) which makes it ideal for determination of critical exponents. This setup can also be operated in an AC mode, which allows the determination of the magnetic susceptibility.

The third setup is currently being mounted, opening up new possibilities, due to completely new approach in design. The magnetic field can be rotated around two axis with respect to the sample. The sample temperature can be varied between 2.2 and 500 K, and the field can be varied between 0.01 to 600 mT.
